4th
International Meeting on
Statistical Implicative Analysis
A.S.I.
4

Departamento de
Matemáticas
Universidad Jaume I
Castellón
(Spain) October 18-21 2007
Goals
- To give continuation to previous meetings (Caen June, 2000, Sao
Paulo July, 2003, Palermo October, 2005 (cf. http://math.unipa.it/~grim/asi/asi_index.htm)).
- Fourth ASI Conference shall provide the opportunity to present:
- new elements of training,
- theoretical advances in non-symmetrical data analysis
methods, the Implicative Statistical Analysis (ASI),
- a significant number of real applications in various
domains, particularly in the fields of didactics of mathematics,
education sciences, psychology, knowledge extraction, economy, biology,
etc.
Let us recall that this method of non-symmetrical data analysis
allows us to extract and structure knowledge in the form of rules and
general rules using a set of data that connects a population of
subjects (or objects) with a set of variables. This method stems from
the statistical modelling of the quasi-implication: if a given variable
or conjunction of variables “a” is noticed among the
population, then, in general, so will be variable “b”. The
variables referred to can be of various
types: binary, modal, numerical, interval, etc. Contrary to the methods
of symmetrical analysis
based, for instance, on distance or correlation, groups of acquired
rules can lead to hypotheses of
causality. These groups are structured according to different
supplementary approaches
(implicative graph, oriented hierarchy). The quantitative determination
of subjects or descriptors responsible for these structures is
determined by their contribution or their
typicality. Finally, the results and their interpretation can be
readily visualized by means of the CHIC software
(Classification Hiérarchique Implicative and Cohésitive).
Topics
of ASI 4
- fundamental concepts in ASI: statistical models, types of
variables, main and additional variables,
- latest and on-going advances, stability of indexes, extension
to new types of variables, exception rules, duality individual space vs
rule space, metrical structure and space topology in subjects provided
by their contribution or their typicality,
- critical comparison of ASI steps, models, presentations, and
results with those obtained by other methods of data analysis,
- practice with CHIC software, expected and actual developments,
- applications treated by ASI in comparison to other methods in the
fields of didactics, education sciences, psychology, sociology,
economy, biology, etc.,
- graphical and numerical representations of applied results, ways
to help interpreting these results, respective roles and review of
variable types, main and additional variables chosen.

180 €
|
from July the 31st |
The registration fees include:
- Congress work materials
- Thursday and Friday (at university), and Sunday (at Hotel Luz)
lunch meals.
- Congress Acts volume
There will be a special excursion on Saturday afternoon, whose price
(40 €, not included in the registration fees) does includes lunch.
Communications
Communications shall be given in Spanish or French or,
exceptionally, in Italian or
English, and shall concern one or several of the topics listed above.
Particular attention shall be given to the justification of the
methodological choices made and to the interpretation of results within
the framework of the enunciated
problems. Oral communications will be subject to a scientific and
reading committee review and must be presented in one of these two
forms:
- poster presented at a special session
- oral communication, with a duration still to be defined.
Poster proposals will fit in one page and communication texts will
comprise a maximum of 4,000 words or 12 pages. The front page shall
state the title of the communication, the names and affiliation of the
authors, and an abstract (in Spanish, French, and English) of a maximum
of 10 lines. Texts shall be drafted in Word format, Times 10, simple
line space, respecting the instructions of the style_WORD_10pt. They are to be
submitted before
March 17, 2007
in two versions:
Invited Keynote Speaker: Professeur Einoshin SUZUKI (Kyushu
University, Japan), spécialiste mondialement reconnu en Data Mining,
Président d'Honneur en janvier 2007 des Journées "Extraction et Gestion
des Connaissances" de Namur.
- Title: Découverte des Règles d'Exception Structurées
- Summary: In this talk, I would like to explain our efforts
for discovery of structured exception rules. In the last decade, we
have seen a proliferation of rule discovery research though it is often
criticized to result in a huge number of rules most of which are
uninteresting. Various evaluation criteria including those based on
intensity of implication have been proposed to circumvent this problem.
Our approach is different from them because it relies on its pattern
representation to discover interesting rules. Statistical criteria as
well as practical applications will be also presented.
Schedule:
- Submission deadline: March, 17th 2007
- Notification to authors: April, 21st 2007
- Final version: June, 1st 2007
A collection of papers gathering different forms of contributions
will be published in the form of a university journal
(with ISSN or ISBN number), and handed out at the beginning of the
conference, and shall also be available
on-line (on the web).

Program
dates and outline
Bearing in mind the needs detected in previous meetings, the fourth
edition has been strustured in two consecutive sequences:
- A first day of Start, dubbed I, on the fundamentals of SIA and
introduction to the implicative method, specially addressed to "young"
researchers, and
- A second part made of two days, dubbed C, devoted to the
presentation of new developments of SIA in the theoretical side and in
the applications to several domaines. For the last ones, contributions
